Polar Bear Tears Plastic Tub a New One (December, 1999)

This awesome Polar Bear lives at the Bronx Zoo in New York City. Here is chewing clear through a large, hard-plastic tub like it were a cheese doodle. See this full-sized and see that fang and be glad the tub is not your leg! Photo taken on 12-30-1999.

It's a Deli-CAT-essen! (October, 2006)

I'll take a cinnamon crumb cake with that cute kitty please! I found this black & white kitty at a local deli. I took the picture and suddenly the deli owner started complaining loudly. "Why would that bother him," I wondered... and then it hit me... having a kitty as a pet at a deli is a health code violation. Ahhhh! Now I understand. Picture taken on 10-30-2006.

Where Sneakers Go to Die (2006)

This is not an unfamiliar -- or new -- scene in some of New York's neighborhoods. I remeber seeing it back in the 60s and am sure it goes back further than that. Does this urban decorating tradition take place outside of NYC?

Rush Hour? Why Rush? (October, 2006)

No, He's not Dead. He's just taking a nap at the 28th St. Lexington Ave. subway station in Manhattan... right in the middle of morning rush hour... the roar of passing subways... noooo problem. the stench or the garbage bin next to him or the possibility of a rat having a nip at his ears... nooooo problem. He was clean shaven, healthy looking and his clothing were fairly clean... all indicating that he is probably not homeless. Perhaps he just had a rough evening. Really rough. I took this photo this morning (10-05-2006) while on my way to work. If you have a suggestion for a better caption. let me know and I may use it!

Rush Hour? Why Rush? - Part II (October, 2006)

Last week, I posted a picture of a man sleeping on the 28th St. Lexington Ave. Subway during the morning rush-hour, on the station's dirty platform floor. Almost a week later I find this man asleep on a bench no more than 8 feet away. I've never tried it, but it would appear to be an excellent place for a snooze (photo taken 10-12-2006).

Marvelous Marley: Standing in the Light (October, 2006)

Marvelous Marley loves to find a strong beam of sunlight and just sit in it or roll around in it. Here she is just soaking up the sun this morning, almost as if she were in a trance. BAM! Right in the face (photo taken on 10-15-06).

Sad Man in Union Square Park (October, 2006)

This fellow did not move for a long time. He just remained sitting in this position, with that sad and pensive look, for what seemed like ages. It was not clear that he was homele4ss, but he might have been. Hang in there buddy.

Homeless Man Trying to Stay Warm (October, 2006)

It is only Autumn and already the homeless are feeling the harshness of cold weather. This man was sitting on 6th Ave in the 20's in what is a bustling shopping area of New York City (photo taken on 10-29-2006).

Male Orangutan Gives Me The Evil Eye (October, 1990)

I found this fine fellow at the San Diego Zoo, back in 1990. We had a staring contest for a while. He won when he decided to throw some poo at us.

The Empire State Building After A Storm (October, 2006)

It had been raining all morning and afternoon. A couple of hours before sunset, the rain stopped and the clouds parted... but then, right before sunset, the clouds started to gather again. Here is the Empire State Building, as seen from my balcony, at the beginning of sunset, as clouds thicken (photo taken on 10-28-2006).

Eek!!! It's a Black Cat, Just in Time for Halloween!

This black beauty was found greeting visitors in Cold Spring, NY. Stella was enjoying showcasing her back and belly rolls, on the pavement, until a cute pooch happenned by, at which point she was more than happy to demonstrate how well she could run and hide underneath a parked car (Photo Taken: 10-15-06).

I Would, If I Could, But I Can't, So I Won't! (October, 2006)

There ought to be a law against this (so says my cat). Here in the foreground you see my cat, Marvelous Marley, sadly watching two pigeons who took residence in our balcony for a few hours this afternoon. Though the balcony door was cracked open, it was not wide enough for Marley to sneak through. So Marley had to endure almost two hours of these delicious birds just a few feet away, cooing through the crack in the door. The pigeons preened, danced and tormented Marley and then just flew away... leaving an exhausted kitty behind (Photo taken on 10-28-2006).
