A Chat With His Demons, Union Square, NYC (January, 2006)

Here is another homeless New Yorker. I found him having an animated discussion with an invisible demon or friend. His belongings are in the garbage bag next to him. In this particular frame (the 3rd of 3 posted photos in my Flickr.com accout) he is using his hands to help illustrate his point. Peace be with you my friend (photo taken on 01-20-2006). Two Old Men in Union Square, NYC (January, 2006)

These two older men have great faces and both look like they have interesting stories behind them. The gentleman on the left is chomping on a cigar and I am guessing he is, or was, a businessman. The gentleman on the right seems more blue-collar and seems to be keenly aware of the cigar chomper (or his cigar smoke). Both look like they could have served in the military though the man on the right seems to be quite proud of his service (or perhaps he just likes the cap). They both look like they could have served in WW II (photo taken on 01-20-2006). See the next photo in this series of two photos by clicking HERE!

Three Musicians in Union Square, NYC (January, 2006)

Union Square in NYC is host to countless musicians, year round. These three gentlemen were quite good and braved the January cold to do their thing. They were playing (I believe) depression-era American music and were dressed for the part. If you look behind the fence, you'll see children playing in the park (photo taken on 01-20-2006).

Union Square South, NYC (January, 2006)

After the glorious Central Park, Union Square Park is my favorite park in Manhattan... and since it is close to where I live, I spend quite a lot of time there. 20 years ago the park was truly a dump. A total wasteland. Then, one of NYC's most succesful reclamation projects was launched there and it is now one of the city's finest areas. This is the Southern end of the park looking East. In the foreground is a statue of George Washington. The tall, red-brick buildings are Zeckendorf Towers and behind then is the Con Edison Tower (photo taken on 01-20-2006).

Brunette Having a Nice Healthy Meal & A Smoke in Union Square, NYC or... OUCH! Watch That Straw Lady! (May, 2006)

Here's an attractive young lady having a nutricious meal and healthy smoke in Union Square, NYC. As a blog reader noted: "Ouch, watch that straw!" (photo taken on 05-11-2006).

Note: Here is a bit of irony regarding this series of photos: I've taken thousands of pictures at Union Square Park in New York City. From among them, I've pulled out a hand full of "smoking pics." I was reminded that I had these photos when I saw an absolutely awesome and incredible anti-smoking commercial that is currently running on TV. The commercial is set in Union Square Park, just as these pictures are. In that commercial, caustic chemicals found in cigarettes are used to "shave" the backs of some very hairy men. The disgusted faces of people observing the effects of these chemicals are shown throughout the commercial. Well, these photos were taken in the same park, at nearly the same spot, within weeks of when that commercial was shot!

Technical Note: The grain in these photos are not a result of noisy cameras or poor exposure... it is intentional and was added via Photoshop's grain filter. I thought that the effect was appropriate for these photos.

Moon Over Manhattan (November, 2006)

I am still looking to take the "Ultimate" moon photo. Until then, here is the 2nd of two moonshots, taken on successive evenings (See last night's moon here). On both nights, the sky was crisp and clear and the moon was full and high over Manhattan (photo taken on 11-05-2006).

Polar Bear Tears Plastic Tub a New One (December, 1999)

This awesome Polar Bear lives at the Bronx Zoo in New York City. Here is chewing clear through a large, hard-plastic tub like it were a cheese doodle. See this full-sized and see that fang and be glad the tub is not your leg! Photo taken on 12-30-1999.
