Subway Serenade (NYC, February, 2007)

I took this photo yesterday and already it is one of my favorite captures ever. Here you see a subway musician (part of a duo) serenading a little girl as her mother looks on. The duo were playing at the Union Square subway station when the mother spotted them and began to urge her daughter to get closer to the musicians. The little girl was a bit cautious, but willing to get closer. Here you see the caution and apprehension in her face as well as her willingness to explore and get closer. Her mom is beaming at her. The musician played for a few seconds more and then stood up and laughed with delight and then went back to playing.

This photo is an excellent example as to why I always carry a camera with me: you never know where & when life's special moments will happen. It also shows the limitations of current, small, pocket digital cameras (one of which I was carrying on this day) as opposed to the digital SLR which I usually have with me,. Still, having the picture is better than not! Photo taken 02-10-2007.

Rush Hour? Why Rush? (October, 2006)

No, He's not Dead. He's just taking a nap at the 28th St. Lexington Ave. subway station in Manhattan... right in the middle of morning rush hour... the roar of passing subways... noooo problem. the stench or the garbage bin next to him or the possibility of a rat having a nip at his ears... nooooo problem. He was clean shaven, healthy looking and his clothing were fairly clean... all indicating that he is probably not homeless. Perhaps he just had a rough evening. Really rough. I took this photo this morning (10-05-2006) while on my way to work. If you have a suggestion for a better caption. let me know and I may use it!

Rush Hour? Why Rush? - Part II (October, 2006)

Last week, I posted a picture of a man sleeping on the 28th St. Lexington Ave. Subway during the morning rush-hour, on the station's dirty platform floor. Almost a week later I find this man asleep on a bench no more than 8 feet away. I've never tried it, but it would appear to be an excellent place for a snooze (photo taken 10-12-2006).

Blue Raincoat at Grand Central Station (October, 2006)

On my way to work this morning, this fine fellow was just sitting here, at the Grand Central Subway Station, passing away the time in his blue garbage bag raincoat (photo taken on 10-12-2006).

Friday the 13th: Little Freddie Kruger on the Subway (October, 2006)

This kid was all too happy to pose for me after he caught me sneaking a few candid shots of him on the subway. He was trying on his Halloween costume (perhaps for a school party) and kept putting his "claws" on and taking them off (notice them on his left hand). The subway was stalled at the station with its doors open and I was across the platform waiting for a different train. A moment later, the doors closed (Photo taken on Friday the 13th, 10-13-2006).
