I Would, If I Could, But I Can't, So I Won't! (October, 2006)

There ought to be a law against this (so says my cat). Here in the foreground you see my cat, Marvelous Marley, sadly watching two pigeons who took residence in our balcony for a few hours this afternoon. Though the balcony door was cracked open, it was not wide enough for Marley to sneak through. So Marley had to endure almost two hours of these delicious birds just a few feet away, cooing through the crack in the door. The pigeons preened, danced and tormented Marley and then just flew away... leaving an exhausted kitty behind (Photo taken on 10-28-2006).

Friday the 13th: Little Freddie Kruger on the Subway (October, 2006)

This kid was all too happy to pose for me after he caught me sneaking a few candid shots of him on the subway. He was trying on his Halloween costume (perhaps for a school party) and kept putting his "claws" on and taking them off (notice them on his left hand). The subway was stalled at the station with its doors open and I was across the platform waiting for a different train. A moment later, the doors closed (Photo taken on Friday the 13th, 10-13-2006).

Students Hard at Work at the Cooper Square Starbucks, NYC (May, 2004)

This is in the Cooper Union area of New York City's fabled East Village. Across the street (not visible) is Cooper Union College. The area is also home to several NYU dorms which is not far away, as are several other smaller colleges & universities. Down a few blocks to the right is the world-famous, now defuncked CBGB's rock club. Partly visible is St. Mark's Place, the well-known home to NYC's youthful counter-culture (Photo Taken on 05-01-2004).

Green Ghosts in the Tree! Eek! (October, 2006)

Woooooooo. Spooky! Several clearly visible green ghosts inhabit this pine tree and they have beautiful dangling pine cones for noses. This tree can be seen in New Hamburg, NY in the Hudson Valley. Can anyone name the type of Pine Tree this is? (Photo taken on 10-15-2006.)

The New 7 World Trade Center (September 11, 2006)

This picture was taken at sunset, on the 5th Anniversary of the September 11 massacres. It was a lovely, but overcast afternoon. Thick clouds to the north and partial sun and sky to the the south and southeast created the perfect conditions for this photograph.

This building replaced the original '7 World Trade Center' which was destroyed in the Septermber 11, 2001 attacks. It is across the street from the fallen twin towers and is the only building erected at ground zero since the attacks.

So here I am... adding my take on the Flatiron Building to the thousands already out there. Hey, 50,000 Flatiron Fans Can't Be Wrong (photo taken on 09-29-2006).

Metropolitan Life Insurance Building at Night (November, 2003)

Metropolitan Life Insurance Building at Night, New York City (11-25-2003). Braced against a light pole, this photo was taken at night without a tripod (pretty steady, eh?). I was trying to capture cars streaking by in the foreground and this broad, bright, orange streak was the best of the lot.

Spooky Twisting Trees: Central Park in Autumn (October, 2006)

These zig-zagging branches seem a bit spooky to me... almost as if they could reach down and grab you. They'd be perfect in "The Blair Witch Project." Perhaps Freddie, Jason or Michael Myers are hiding among them. They could also be the talking trees in the "Wizard of Oz" or the "Lord of the Rings" (photo taken in Central Park, NYC, on 10-22-2006)

Autumn Wedding, Central Park (October, 2006)

I was taking a walk through Central Park (NYC) when I came across this bride & groom. They had just finished having their wedding photos taken and were walking out. I swung into action and took a series of photos before the opportunity passed. The light was relatively low (mid-afternoon on a heavily overcast October afternoon) and they were far away so I had to zoom in, hold the camera steady and hope for the best. Most of the shots came out dark and blurry but fortunately this one - the best composition of the series - came out relatively sharp and well exposed. A little Photoshop magic later and here we are (photo taken in Central Park, NYC, on 10-22-2006).

Sunday in Central Park (October, 2006)

I love these crooked, twisted, spooky-looking brances. They can be found in Central Park (NYC) and make for a great backdrop at this time of year, before they loose all their leaves. I will be returning to them during or after the enxt moderate snowfall. I bet they look spectacular then (photo taken on 10-22-2006)!
